David Norman Obituary

David Patrick "Pat" Norman, age 71, Weston, passed away in the early morning hours of January 18. His passing was sudden and unexpected. His family was by his side when final farewells were said in his ICU room and it was peaceful. It was discovered that Pat had HLH, a dangerous and rare type of cancer and he fought it the best he could. Pat did not want to leave this world because he still had so much he wanted to do. Pat is survived by his wife of 51 years Mary Jane, his son Michael Norman (Sarah) of Weston, his daughter Barbara Brown (Levi) of Prescott Valley, Arizona, sisters-in-law Terry Robins (Ray) of Paola Kansas, Suezy House of Weston, and sister Valerie Kibler of Nashville, Tennessee. Family in Arizona, Michael, Dale, Denise and Maryan. He also leaves behind many cousins, nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, and great great niece Iris. In heaven, Pat joins his father Thom Norman, mother Dorothy Norman, brother Tom Norman, sister-in-law Robin Norman, Jane's parents, and his beloved grandmother Mammaw. Pat was born in Little Rock, Arkansas. His family moved to the "big brown house" in Kansas City when he was young. They eventually moved to Olathe, Kansas. Pat graduated from Olathe High School in 1971. After high school he tried college, but it just wasn't his thing. Even though he never got that college degree, he went on to have a very successful career in communications. He was a technology wizard and Jane is going to miss that too. He was a loyal trustworthy man of God and of integrity. Pat and Jane met in 1970 in a rock and roll band named "Sweet Red". Mary Jane was the vocalist and Pat the drummer. They loved rock and roll and performed many concerts together in various states, including 13 concerts for the military in Guantanamo Bay Cuba. In 1973 they were married in Olathe, just 2 broke hippies playing music and living life. Mary Jane got her college degree and began her career of 40 years in teaching. Pat landed a job for Sprint. At the time of his death, he was a highly respected employee for Lumen. Their love of music never died. They both sang and performed together on stage and for the Lord, serving as "the dancing usher" and worship team for Word of Life Church in St. Jo Missouri, and as the worship team for Weston United Methodist Church for the past 17 years He was so talented singing, playing guitar, piano, and drums He mentored young people in their love for music. He wrote songs and sang them for worship. He was always picking up his guitar and practicing, or at the piano getting ready for services. He was a phenomenal person. He would do anything for anyone at any time. He loved Jesus and his church so much. Pat was a humble man and never wanted to be the center of attention. He was the true example of a real and honest human being. He, like his love for Jane, are one of a kind. Mary Jane would like to thank the doctors and nurses who "fought like hell" to bring him through this. His health had declined somewhat over the last 2-3 years but he kept going and kept giving. Please remember him by being a person of honesty, loyalty, and integrity, loving everyone no matter their race or beliefs. That is his legacy. Pat never had a favorite flower and Jane can't have plants because of all the kitties they have so in lieu of flowers, he would love if you would support Weston United Methodist Church. You can also add to his GoFundMe at https//gofund.me/4c73f3b8 His Celebration of Life is Saturday, January 25th, at 11:00 at Weston United Methodist Church. Because of the suddenness of this, Jane has requested no visitation. A family only burial will follow the service. Pat will be laid to rest in Pleasant Ridge Cemetery right down the street from his home. He will be able to see his house and watch the sunrises and sunsets until Jane joins him on his heavenly worship team. Dear Pat,

It´s your old colleague from Sprint. I miss the days when we discussed scriptures as we tried to stay in the Word in the workplace. Those conversations were always so enlightening. I remember once mentioning that I wished I could have a two-way conversation with the Lord. Prayer works, of course, but I joked that it would be great to just call Him up. With that twinkle in your eye and that familiar half-smile, you said, "You know His phone number is in the Bible." I laughed and asked, "Really? Where do I find it?" And you replied, "Jeremiah 33:3."

Sure enough, you were right. To this day, I sign sympathy cards with that verse. Your Bible scholarship and wisdom will always resonate with me, Pat.

May you rest in peace.
