Martha Rose "Hixson" Canchola

Martha Rose Canchola (Hixson), 85, of St. Joseph, passed away Tuesday, September 9, 2025. She was born 26th of April, 1940 in St. Joseph, Missouri to William Hixson and Jesse (Roesch) Carl. Martha married Jessie V. Canchola on 23rd of June 1956. They shared 53 years together before his passing in April 2009. Martha worked at Sherwood Medical Supply in Kansas for 16 years, until its closing in 1993. Martha's hobbies included spending time with family and friends, playing cards with her sisters and grandchildren and especially bingo with her best friend, Karlene Davis. Martha was also a member of Genesis Health Club where she regularly went to do water aerobics. Martha was a member of the River Church. In her early days she assisted with the food pantry and the different festivals including her making of the confetti eggs. Martha was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Jesse; their daughter, Ramona Canchola and sister, Frances Teriann Nolan. Her survivors include three sons, Vincent, Mark and Dominic; and daughter, Gloria; 5 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild; sisters, Betty Hillsman, Jackie Detwieler, Susie Major, Bernie Clark and brother, Robert Carl. A special thanks to Mosaic Hospice for taking such good care of our mother. Funeral Service 10:00 AM Monday, September 15 at Heaton-Bowman-Smith & Sidenfaden Chapel. Interment Mt. Olivet Cemetery. The family will receive friends 1:00 to 3:00 PM Sunday, September 14 at our chapel. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the River Church.
