Norma Cates Obituary

Norma E. (Hughes) Cates, 84, of Parkville, Missouri, passed away peacefully at her home on Wednesday, September 3, 2025. She was born on January 6, 1941, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, to the late Norman W. Roesing Hughes and Mary L. (Moore) Hughes. On September 27,1980, Norma married the love of her life, Bobby J. Cates, in Kansas City, Missouri. They shared 44 wonderful years of marriage. Norma worked as an accountant at the AMC Home Office for 20 years. She poured her heart into her family and home and was known for her beauty, warmth, and kindness, which radiated to all who knew her. A passionate genealogist, she enjoyed tracing her family's history and loved listening to her husband, Bobby, play music with his band. In addition to her parents, Norma was also preceded in death by her son, David F. Sissel, and sister, Julia Allen. Norma is survived by her husband, Bobby J. Cates, of the home; her son, Michael Sissel (Bobbie); her daughter, Lisa J. Sissel(Brian Hughes); her brother, Richard William Hughes, and many extended family members and friends who will cherish her memory. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, September 10th, 2025, from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at Heaton-Bowman-Smith & Sidenfaden Chapel. A Celebration of Life and Interment will follow at 12:30 p.m., Sept. 10th at the Leavenworth National Cemetery. The family suggests memorial contributions be made to Friends of Parkville Animal Shelter (FOPAS) or to an animal shelter of your choice, honoring Norma's love for animals.
