Richard Gilgour Obituary

Richard Dean Gilgour 71, of St. Joseph, Missouri, passed away Tuesday, August 19, 2025 in St. Joseph. He was born September 25, 1953 in Chillicothe, MO, son of Eloise and Robert Gilgour. He graduated from Central High School in 1971. He married Cheryl Black on June 3, 1972, and the rest became history. He served in the Air National Guard for 25 years as SMSgt., and he is a veteran of Operation Enduring Freedom and Desert Storm. He also retired from the St. Joseph Police Department in 1998. Richard enjoyed woodworking, loved working outside, camping, and traveling with his family. "He showed up everyday, even when he didn't have to and that's the man we will always remember. His legacy is love, strength, and family, and that is where our peace comes from." Richard was preceded in death by his father, and brother, Bill. Survivors include: wife and love of his life, Cheryl Gilgour of the home, mother, daughter, Kimberly (Blake) Brownlee of Richmond, MO, son, Christopher (Dejah) Gilgour of Pittsburg, PA, grandsons, Jonathan (Mallory), Colton (Bailey), Joseph (Accalia), great-grandson, Hollis Dean Thompson, brothers, Mike and Steve, life long best friend, Mike Anthony, and mother-in-law, Joyce Black. Mr. Gilgour has been cremated under the care of Rupp Funeral Home. Per his wishes, there are no scheduled services at this time. Because of his relationship with Jesus, we know we will see him again.
