Marvin Andrews Obituary

VINTON: It is with deep sorrow that we announce the sudden and unexpected passing of Marvin Wayne Andrews, age 80, of rural Vinton, Iowa. Marvin died on Wednesday, August 13, 2025, from injuries sustained in a motorcycle accident. Visitation will be held from 4:00 until 7:00 PM, Tuesday, August 19, 2025 at Prairie Creek Church (2745 55th Street Hwy 150) Vinton. Memorial services will be held on Wednesday at 10:30 AM, also at Prairie Creek Church, with Pastor Randy Nash officiating. Interment will be held at Bear Creek Cemetery, with graveside military rites. Born on July 25, 1945, in rural Center Point, Iowa, Marvin was the son of Clarence and Bertha (Lovell) Andrews. He graduated from Urbana High School in 1963. In September 1965, Marvin proudly began his service in the U.S. Army, serving until September 1967. On June 29, 1968, Marvin was united in marriage to Becky Lee Porter at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. Marvin is survived by his wife of 57 years, Becky; their three children: Brian (Chris) Andrews of Janesville, IA, Brett (Teresa) Andrews of Erin, TN, and Lori (Brian) Sell of Center Point, IA; twelve grandchildren: Thomas Andrews, Alyssa Andrews, Casey Hild, Chance Andrews, Eve Andrews, Patrick Campbell, Shea Campbell, Brady "Howie" Campbell, Ava Sell, Connor Sell, Skyler Sell, and Whitley Benson,; and ten great-grandchildren: Brandon, Roman, Levi, Spencer, Reece, Graham, Ariel, Willow, Max, and Penelope. He is also survived by his siblings: Gerald (Sandy) Andrews of Eagle Grove, IA, Gale (Gloria) Andrews of Walker, IA, Jim (Jolinda) Andrews of Urbana, IA, and Eva Mae (Loren) Kisling of Marion, IA; along with many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends. Marvin was preceded in death by his parents, Clarence and Bertha Andrews; his parents-in-law, Meryle and Mary (White) Porter; three brothers: Loren, Greg, and Delbert Andrews; a sister, Lorene Leaven; two sister-in-law, Colleen (Ferguson) (Andrews) Giebler and Gloria (Kramer) Porter; and nephews Kerry Leaven, Mike Andrews, Duane Andrews, and Roy Gordon. Marvin worked for Link-Belt Speeder (later known as FMC) for 16 years until its closure. He then began a long and fulfilling career with the Benton County Road Department, where he operated heavy machinery, first as a maintainer operator for the Newhall area and later as a telescope driver. He retired in 2008. A dedicated member of Prairie Creek Christian Church in rural Vinton, Marvin was a man of action who never liked to sit still. He loved walking in the timber, maintaining his acreage, and was a talented woodworker who crafted cherished pieces for loved ones. Fishing brought him peace and joy-especially trout fishing outings shared with his brother Gale. In his later years, Marvin found great happiness in riding his Harley-Davidson Tri-Glide. Just weeks before his passing, he celebrated his 80th birthday with a full-day ride alongside his wife and children-a memory now deeply treasured by his family. Marvin will be remembered as a devoted husband, a loving father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, a hard worker, and a kind, humble man who led by example and lived life to the fullest.
