Roger Regel Obituary

Roger D. Regel, 80, of Charles City, passed away Thursday, April 24, 2025, at his home. Per Roger's wishes, a private family graveside service will be held at Riverside Cemetery in Charles City. Roger is survived by his wife, Shirley; children, Tammy (Eric) Kacer of Mason City and Tina (Bart) Shrader/Bartholmey of Charles City; grandchildren, Aaron (Whitney) Kacer of Phoenix, Abby Kacer of Mason City, Morgan (Matt) Romoser of Williamsburg, and Miranda (Tyler) Bluhm of Floyd; and great-grandchildren, Camryn Bluhm and Kleine Kacer. Roger was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond and Edna (Wessel) Regel; brother, Richard "Dick" Regel; and his grandson, Andrew Kacer. Roger was born on October 24, 1944, in Charles City, Iowa. His family lived in Charles City until the age of 4, and then moved to New Hampton. Roger attended school in New Hampton from Kindergarten through High School. He graduated high school in 1962. On August 31, 1963, Roger was united in marriage to Shirley Brummond at Trinity Lutheran Church in New Hampton and then established their home in Charles City. While raising their family, he worked as a meat cutter and produce manager at Trowbridge's Red Owl and went to Gates Business College for his business degree. He then started working at Schmidt Plumbing & Heating, where he also became a Master Plumber and Master Electrician. Roger went on to become co-owner of Schmidt Plumbing & Heating. After 15 years as a business owner, he sold his company but continued to work for several years, most recently at Clausen's Plumbing in Mason City, to keep himself busy. Once he finally phased into true retirement, he enjoyed spending the winters in Arizona with his wife at their house playing cards, golfing, and enjoying an occasional 'happy hour'. Roger and Shirley celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary in 2023. He enjoyed spending the last 6 years in their newly built home. His family was the most important thing to him. Roger liked to fish in his younger years and loved model trains. He always put others first and was loved by all.
