Floyd Harvey Obituary

Obituary of Floyd A. Harvey Floyd "Pee-Wee" A. Harvey Jr. (89) Alias "Dobro Man", longtime St. Maries, ID resident passed away on August 7, 2024, with his loving wife Faith by his side. Pee-Wee was born to Floyd Sr and Rose Harvey on June 24, 1935, in St. Maries, ID. He attended school in St. Maries until the 7 grade. It was then his father was hurt and he left school to work and help support his family. At the age of 11 he drove truck hauling cedar poles. When he was 17, he enlisted into the U.S. Army. Pee-Wee served 3 years during the Korean Conflict at Fort Lewis, WA. After he was honorably discharged, he moved to Portland, OR and went to work landscaping. Pee-Wee married Mary Ellis in Coeur d' Alene, and they were married 10 years before their marriage ended in divorce. Pee-Wee lived out on Sanders where he logged. He then worked at Jeffrey City, WY at an underground uranium mine. Pee-Wee returned to St. Maries where he met Faith Warner in 1969. The couple married in Auburn, WA in 1970 and made their home in North Bend. Pee-Wee went to work logging for Weyerhaeuser. There was a time where Pee-Wee tried several different things and moved around a bit. He was a heavy equipment operator in Nevada and Wyoming, but after he settled back down in St. Maries, he drove logging truck well into his 70's. Age and health caught up to him and he was forced to retire in 2006. Pee-Wee was a talented musician, and at times he played 8 hours a day. When he was able, he played with several local bands and artists in the bars and clubs downtown St. Maries. He could play all instruments, but his passion was an electric 6 string and later a dobro or a resophonic guitar. His boys grew up around large jam sessions with Peewee, his brothers, cousins and uncle. There were several music and yard festivals that he played at. If he wasn't playing an instrument, which was rare, you could find him in his younger years bank and creek fishing. He was a simple man but passed his love of fishing down to his children. Pee-Wee is survived by his wife Faith at their home in St. Maries; children David (Brinda) Harvey of Lewiston, ID and Kenneth Harvey of St. Maries, ID; brother Fred (Lois) Harvey of St. Maries, ID; sister Virginia Ash of Bellingham, WA; 5 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents and his siblings Phillip Harvey, June Hamp, Nora Dutt, Joseph Harvey, Gene Harvey, and Jeannette Harvey. A graveside service will be on August 24, 2024, at 11:00 am at Woodlawn Cemetery in St. Maries. Military honors will be presented. A gathering of family and friends to share a meal will follow in the fellowship hall of the St. Maries Assembly of God Church in St. Maries.
