Shirley Jean Mahaffy

Jean Mahaffy (Wanner), age, passed away peacefully on August 13, 2025, in Cheney, Washington. Born on July 19, 1940, in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho, Jean lived a full and vibrant life rooted in faith, family, and deep appreciation for the natural beauty of the world around her. Jean's early years were spent in Northern Idaho, where she attended Kellogg Elementary and later Coeur d'Alene Jr High and High School. She continued her education at North Idaho College, laying the foundation for a life marked by dedication and perseverance. At age 14, Jean accepted God into her life - a commitment that remained steadfast throughout her years. Her faith was a guiding light that shaped her values and inspired those around her. Jean shared a loving marriage with her husband Wilfred, with whom she built a close-knit family. Together, they raised two children: Gerene (Terry) Nelson and Jay (Rene) Mahaffy. Jean took great joy in watching her family grow and cherished every moment spent with her grandchildren – Neil, Erik, Brittnee, Reece, Myles, Colton, and Sydney – and great-grandchildren - Dene', Keegan, Ella, Garret, and Paisley. She was preceded in death by her parents, Arthur and Lydia Wanner; as well as her siblings Jim, Debbie, and Karen. Jean had a deep love for the outdoors and found joy in simple pleasures. She nurtured a beautiful garden filled with flowers and raspberries, and delighted in picking Huckleberries during summer outings. Her creativity shown through in sewing projects crafted with care. Jean also embraced adventure – whether camping under the stars or exploring mountain trails on snowmobiles or ATVs. Her legacy is one of dedication – to her faith, to her family, and to the land she loved so dearly. Jean's memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew her. May her memory bring comfort to those who knew and loved her. A Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, August 23, 2025, from 11:00 am to 12:00 pm at Cheney Funeral Chapel, 1632 W. 1st St., Cheney, WA.
