Janet I. Seabern
WINONA - Janet I. Seabern, 94 of Winona, passed away Thursday, February 29, 2024, at Benedictine Living Community – La Crosse, WI.
Janet Irene (Hill) Seabern was born November 8, 1929, to Robert and Zrada (Fleming) Hill in Minnesota city, MN. She grew up there and married Cliff Seabern on Jun 9, 1962, at McKinley United Methodist Church, Winona.
She worked at an early age doing a variety of odd jobs which included: babysitting, working nights at the pea and corn can factory and helping out at the family-owned resort – Camp Hide-A-Way. She graduated from Winona Senior High, attended two years at Winona State College, then La Crosse, WI post graduate nursing program for two years. She was employed at Rochester Hospital and while working at the Lewiston Nursing Home, she met and married the love of her life, Cliff Seabern. After moving to Whitehall, WI, she worked at the Trempealeau County jail as a cook. Janet volunteered after moving back to Winona, spending her time between the hospital, Lions Club, Frozen River and Shakespeare film festival, Habitat for Humanity, Old Settlers, just to name a few. Because of her many years of volunteering, she earned the Jefferson Award.
Other places of employment were at Randall Food Store, Hot Fish Shop as a cook, and Winona Technical College as a cook. She was an election judge, Minnesota City Historical Association, Eastern Star member over 20 years, Lion Sunset Club, Dakota Gathering Culture volunteer, Lewiston American Legion Auxiliary over 60 years, Cub Scout and Brownie Scout leader, ushing for church and the Shakespeare plays at WSU. A Red Cross volunteer, a Lewiston operator for the phone company; and hosted many block parties in her home.
She is survived by her children: Byron (Karen) Seabern; Rhoda Seabern; and Rachel Williams; two grandchildren: Ruth Seabern and Jackson Williams and other relatives.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Cliff; parents: Bob and Zrada Hill; two brothers: Gale and Kenneth and a sister, Marlys.
Funeral services were held at 1 p.m., Wednesday, March 6, 2024, at Fawcett Junker Funeral Home, Winona with Rev. Tori Hicks officiating. Interment will be at Woodlawn Cemetery, Winona.
Visitation was held at 12 p.m., Wednesday at the funeral home.
