Joan Elizabeth Anderson

June 5, 1937 - July 11, 2025

Joan Elizabeth Anderson, 88, rural Westby, died Friday, July 11, 2025, in her home with her family at her side.

She was born June 5, 1937, in Vernon County to Lawrence and Martha (Midtlien) Ekern. She married LeRoy Anderson on October 23, 1954, at Upper Coon Valley Lutheran Church Chapel in Coon Valley. LeRoy died in July 2014. The couple farmed their entire married life in the Westby area.

Joan was a very hardworking, caring and giving individual that worked in healthcare many years; Vernon Memorial Healthcare (OB/Nursery) 40+ years, Norseland Nursing Home 23 years and Franciscan Skemp Nursing Homes for several years. She first worked as a CNA and then commuted to SWTC in Fennimore to earn her LPN degree in 1989 at the age of 52. She also worked for Northern Engraving and Vernon Electric Cooperative. LeRoy and Joan were Syttende Mai parade marshals in 2012 and 4-H leaders for the East Ridge Beavers. She was a devoted member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Westby, serving on church council and as president of WELCA for several years.

Survivors include four children: Brian (Jayne) Anderson, Brent Anderson, and Lynn Anderson of Westby, WI, and Lori (John) Oppert of Soldiers Grove; nine grandchildren: Christopher Anderson, Jessica Neprud, Chad (Sadie) Anderson, Stacey (Brad) Gilardi, Tucker (Holly) Anderson, Cassey (Jeff) Stagg, Justin Anderson, Brianne (Adam) Olson and Carl (Becca) Oppert; fourteen great-grandchildren: Hunter, Kallista, Taylor, Hadley, Haylee, Jotun, Thora, Gavin, Grace, Henrik, Sophie, Molly, Finnley and Rowan; brother-in-law, Arnold (Katherine) Anderson; and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; four brothers: Merlyn (Carol), Gordon (Eleanor), Richard (Ilene) and Burton; one sister, Eunice (Fritz) Goettel; brothers-in-law: Raymond (Christine), Howard (Mildred), Hilmer (Hazel), Alton (Cleo Yttre) and Phillip Anderson; sisters-in-law: Esther (LaVerne) Tryggestad and Lenore (Vernon) Melgard.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., on Thursday, July 17, 2025, at Our Savior's Lutheran Church, Westby, with Pastor Meg Hoversten officiating. Friends may call on Thursday from 9:00 a.m., until time of service. Online condolences may be offered at www.vossfh.com.

The family would like to thank the staff of St. Croix Hospice for their care and support.
