Margaret Jothen Obituary

Margaret Ann (Hagen) Jothen

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our mother, grandmother, sister and friend, Margaret Ann (Hagen) Jothen. Margaret lived an amazing and adventurous life. At the end, she fought the pancreatic cancer battle with dignity and strength surrounded by her family.

Margaret Ann Hagen Jothen was born on Aug. 11, 1946, to Gertrude and Erling Hagen on their family farm near Cumberland, WI. She had three siblings - Martin Hagen, Ken (Marilyn) Hagen and Loretta (Larry) Kummerfeldt. After graduating from Cumberland High School, she went on to UW-River Falls where she studied music education. After college she married Duane Jothen on Aug. 17, 1968, at St Paul's Lutheran Church in Cumberland and then moved to Cashton.

Margaret taught music for 2 years in Viroqua Schools, 18 years in Cashton School District and ended with 10 years at Westby Schools. She also enjoyed the many piano students she had over the years as well as many lifelong church friends. Margaret enjoyed many vacations to national parks and especially enjoyed several scenic trips to Alaska. Her bucket list included going to Australia and New Zealand which they did in 2019. She enjoyed going on these adventures with family and her grandchildren.

Margaret will be greatly missed by her spouse, Duane; children: Mark (Luanne) Jothen of Lake Mills, WI, Linda (Mike) Branzolewski of Lake Mills, WI, Jean (Eric) Fredrickson of Green Bay, WI and Sarah Jothen of Rochester, MN; grandchildren include: Kyle and Lily Templin, Evan Jothen, Lucas and Clara Branzolewski, Keaton, Alex and Lauren Fredrickson and Adam Jothen, sister, Loretta Kummerfeldt and sister-in-law, Diane and Jerry Hoch as well as other beloved family members.

Margaret was greeted in heaven by her parents: Erling and Gertrude Hagen; brothers: Martin and Ken Hagen; sister-in-law, Marilyn Hagen, and brother-in-law, Larry Kummerfeldt.

Please join us in celebrating her life Sunday, March 17, 2024, 2:00 PM at Trinity Lutheran Church in Cashton, WI. Pastor Amanda Schultz Garcia will officiate. Family and friends are invited for visitation Sunday from 12:00 p.m. until the time of service at the church.

Family and friends are invited to sing in a commemorative choir for the funeral, all are welcome. Rehearsal will be at 1:00 p.m. in the church basement on Sunday, March 17.

My sincerest sympathy to the family. I taught with Margaret in Chaseburg and Westby. She had so much energy and passion for music.
I am sad that the funeral date has passed, I would have loved to tell her family how much I enjoyed working with her.
