Scott Tice Obituary

Scott Tice

March 12, 1958 - July 27, 2025

Scott Farnham Tice, age 67, of Sarona, Wis. passed on July 27 due to severe brain injury following a car accident. After a stay at Mayo Clinic in Eau Claire, he departed peacefully in his beloved hillside home, flanked by those who cared for him.

Originally from Connecticut, Scott attended Carleton College in Minnesota where he met Jean Buchanan. They moved to Wisconsin in 1980 and homesteaded a farm in Timberland. They milked a small dairy herd, grew most of their own food, and designed and built a beautiful energy-efficient home with lumber harvested from their forest. He became intrigued by computers when he sought to publish a newsletter for a local anti-mining organization in the early 90s. This led to working with Bob Waggoner of Dataway in Spooner, founding Tice Computer Solutions of Cumberland, and eventually Tice Technologies of Rice Lake. He also worked for Economic Research Corp. (Ralph Chiodo) in Cumberland. A passionate supporter of education, Scott served several terms on the Cumberland School Board, including as president.

Scott is survived by his mother, Bobby; sisters, Merry and Karen; sons, Lincoln and Reid, Jean; nieces and nephews; his partner, Mary Callen and her children and grandchildren, and many friends. He was preceded in death by his father, Ty Tice. Though we are devastated by this tragic loss, memories of Scott's generosity, strength, service to others, adventurous spirit, and love of nature will live on. His intelligence, hard work, wise counsel, and independence will be sorely missed– but remain forever inspiring!

Scott's body will be recomposed to soil through arrangements made with Kilcoyne Memorial Service. A celebration in remembrance of Scott's well-lived life is planned for Nov. 29th, in honor of his favorite holiday, Thanksgiving. Following will be a return-to-the-earth ceremony and barn dance at his sustainable farmstead. Expressions and memories of one who lived life to the fullest are welcome at www.kilcoynememorialservices.com, or Scott's CaringBridge site. You can also take a hike, bike ride, or canoe paddle in his honor :-)
