William Meir Obituary
William "Bill" Meir, age 76, died suddenly at his home in Twin Bluffs, Minnesota, on August 22, 2025.
Born to George and Alyce Meir in La Crosse, Wisconsin, Bill graduated from Aquinas High School in 1966. After high school, Bill moved to New York and found employment as a phone book proofreader as well as other interesting jobs. He was proud to say that he was one of more than 460,000 people at Woodstock in 1969. Later he moved to Haight Ashbury, California, and had many stories about rock legends that he saw at the famous Fillmore Auditorium - like his favorite band, The Rolling Stones. He later moved to Key West, Florida. There he enjoyed life as a free spirit, working on shrimp boats and selling his handmade leather crafts. He and his brother Chuck opened the Silver Hide Out in La Crosse in 1978 and had a successful business before retiring in 2012. Bill enjoyed retirement and made frequent trips to Las Vegas with his soulmate of 20 years, Pam Andresen. He also enjoyed golfing and relaxing at home with ThomThom, the feline fur baby who adopted Bill more than 9 years ago.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents, George and Alyce Meir, and his stepmother Alvera Meir. He will be sadly missed by his brother Chuck (Jackie) Meir, and stepsiblings, David (Denise) Jensen, Steve Jensen, Jan (John) Munson, Jeneen Ablan; and his dear friend Pam Andresen; his step-nieces and nephews; as well as a host of other relatives and friends.
No services will be held at this time. A Celebration of Life will be announced at a later date on the Schumacher-Kish Funeral Home website. Online condolences may be offered by visiting www.schumacher-kish.com. In lieu of flowers, Memorials may be given to the La Crosse Humane Society or a charity of your choice.

I met Bill when I frequented their great little store on Main St. Always a kind word and a smile.

I forgot to mention that while Bill was visiting us in Tucson he get a hole in one on the golf course and we heard about all night long. A great memory. Bill´s words "I can´t believe I got a hole in one." Repeated all night long. (Susie Burns)

As a friend Bill and I went to Woodstock together, in fact, I lived in Brooklyn, NY with him prior to Woodstock. We worked in downtown Manhattan correcting the new phone books. We went to concerts all the time in NYC. It was blast. I´ve been away from the Midwest for 40 years and just moved back but before I moved he called me and we reminisced about the old days. We had a great conversation. I´m so glad he called. I will never forget how kind Bill was, one of a kind.

Years ago I met Bill and his brother Chuck at the Silver Hideout. Two of the nicest guys you'd ever meet ! Always had a smile and something nice to say. Rest in peace, pal.

Shocked! Just spoke with him several times, phone & in person. Recently took Mono Rail in Vegas from MGM to Flamingo to spend an afternoon with him. Although both from La Crosse, a chance meeting at a stop sign in Key West, started a life long friendship. Bill had a unique soul, loved the Stones, loved feeding the animals at Pettibone, loved his soul mate, loved life...he had it figured out.
