GEOFFREY COOPER Obituary

GEOFFREY P. COOPER

Passed away November 28th, at his home in Burbank after a brief illness.

Geoff was born on October 19, 1946 in Los Angeles to Margaret and Harrison. Geoff grew up in Santa Monica and later attended UCLA where he was a proud member of the UCLA marching band. Known as "Engineer Geoff" he was the head yell leader at UCLA during the 1968-69 season. After moving to New York City where he worked as a recording engineer, he returned to Southern California and reunited with several UCLA band friends and together they formed the Roto Rooter Goodtime Christmas Band. The band enjoyed marginal success, playing frequently at many local venues and garnered a loyal fan base, many of whom remain fans to this day. Geoff worked for NBC in the sound effects department for 13 years and he thoroughly enjoyed ringing the buzzers and bells on those great old game shows. Geoff was the owner of DB Cooper's Wholesale Music Exchange ("Burbank's Most Necessary Record Shop") from 1992 through 2004. During his lifetime, Geoff amassed an amazing collection of eclectic vinyl LPs, CDs and video titles which he loved sharing with his friends and family. Geoff was an avid fan of reggae music and all things Jamaica and attended the Sunsplash Music Festival every summer from 1982-88.

Geoff is survived by his sisters Virginia Cooper Latham of Culver City and Susan Cooper Clobucker of Reno, as well as two brothers-in-law, four nephews and one niece. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

Hello, I met Geoff Cooper when The Univ Of Tennessee played UCLA in Knoxville in 1968. We invited him and his friend to an after-game party. I was going through boxes and found a wonderful picture of that day. My granny lived in LA and we had so much fun connecting the dots of people and places. He was a delightful young man and I am sorry to learn of his passing. I found the picture
And googled his name to see if there was some way to share the picture.
I am on fb and would gladly send the pic to you. I am now 75.
Best to you,
Janet Boston Shadoin
