Jasper Jones Obituary

JASPER LEROY JONES October 12, 1917 - December 9, 2001 Born on a farm near Fresno, he moved to the San Fernando Valley in 1925 where he lived in Week's Colony and graduated from Canoga Park High School where he was a football star. He served in the U.S. Army Calvary from 1941 to 1945 as a member of the 75th Field Artillery Battalion. He returned to his beloved Valley where he was an electrical and building contractor and owned a landscaping nursery. He was a president of the Reseda Lions Club and a member of Masonic Lodge 666 and Eastern Star Chapter 505, receiving the Rob Morris award for outstanding service. He was known throughout Los Angeles County for his whimsical holiday decorations: flying saucers, dinosaurs and parachuting Santas, and for his menagerie of exotic birds and animals. He died Sunday at home, surrounded by family and friends. He is survived by his wife, Alice; daughters, Sharon Jones and Bonnie Sue Carolan; step-daughters, Marilyn Costa and Bobbie Purdue; and grandchildren, Judy, Josh and Jake Carolan. His ashes will be scattered in the Rose Garden at Oakwood Memorial Park on Saturday, December 15, 2001 at 11:00 a.m. with family and close friends in attendance.
