Bennie Jones (Hammer), age 61 died Sunday, October 23, 2016 at Emory University Hospital in Atlanta, Georgia. Mr. Jones, a native of Meriwether county was the son of the late Evorgia Prather and Matthew Jones, Sr. He was a graduate of Woodbury High School, Class of 1972. He was a member of Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church and he held employment with Newnan Construction Company as a Truck Driver for well over 20 years and then for 12 years with Troup Haulding Company. Mr. Jones was married to Cora Hall Jones and with this union, they were blessed with two sons and a daughter, Untrell (Tomonica), Marcell and Tontalay Jones. He later united with Myrtis Carr Jones. Survivors include daughters, Tontalay (Victor) of Lagrange, Ga., Jumoke Jones of San Francisco, Calif., sons, Untrell Jones of Newnan, Ga. and Larry Alford of Atlanta, Ga.; one brother, Matthew Jones, Jr. (Gwendolyn) of Greenvile, Ga.; five sisters, Elizabeth Martin (Rufus), Sadie Favors (Alex), Ella Mae Weaver of Woodbury, Ga. Christine Bell (Thomas) of Manchester, Ga. and Patsy Marshall of Greenville, Ga. Mr. Jones was preceded in death by a son, Marcell Jones, a brother, Arthur L. Jones, Sr.; his grandmother, Sadie Jones and three sisters, Mary Ann Bell, Diane Marshall and Sandra Parks. Funeral services for Bennie Jones will be held on Saturday, October 29, 2016 at 2:00 P.M. at Confidence Missionary Baptist Church. Rev. Alfred Crowley will officiate with burial at Southview Cemetery. The family will receive friends Friday evening from 7:00 until 8:00 P.M. at West Georgia Mortuary. Condolences may be expressed or you may sign the Guest Book at West Georgia Mortuary, LaGrange, Georgia West Georgia Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.
