Anne Gillespie Obituary

Anne Therese Gillespie
March 2, 1947 - April 15, 2022
Rancho Bernardo
Anne Therese Gillespie passed away on April 15, 2022 in her home in Rancho Bernardo surrounded by her loving family after a short battle with cancer. Anne is survived by her husband Dennis, her three children Julie, Brian, and David, her eight grandchildren Emma, Peyton, Jase, Kaitlyn, Maggie, Nathan, Jacob, and Nash, her sisters Kathy, Elaine, and Marie, and her brother George. Anne was preceded in death by her father George Frangie Sr., mother Mary, and brothers Thomas and John.
Anne, the first of seven children, was born in Detroit Michigan on March 2, 1947. She later moved to Covina, CA where Anne attended Northview High School and met Dennis, her beloved husband of 52 years. Active in her high school, she was a song leader and involved in several sports. Together they graduated in 1965. Anne and Dennis then both attended Cal Poly Pomona, graduating in 1969. They were married in December of 1969 and moved to Rancho Bernardo in 1972.
Anne began her 32-year teaching career in 1976. She worked at Valley, Los Penasquitos and Monterrey Ridge Elementary Schools where she taught nearly 1000 children. She was loved and admired by her students and colleagues alike. Anne was tireless in designing innovative lessons to not only educate her students, but inspire them to achieve their potential and become lifelong learners. She retired in 2008 and devoted herself to her family. She was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma International, supporting women educators.
Family was Anne's treasure. She was mom to three children and Grammy to 8 grandchildren. She often held "Grammy School" for her grandchildren helping them with their studies. In recent years, Dennis and Anne enjoyed growing and pressing grapes to make wine. It was a family event with all children and grandchildren participating. They also enjoyed traveling throughout the U.S. and Europe.
Anne was a woman of faith, wife, mother, grammy, sister, auntie, godmother, accomplished teacher, dear friend, gentle soul and a beautiful person inside and out. She is loved deeply by everyone who had the privilege to have her touch their lives. Her passing will leave a giant hole in our hearts, but we know there is another angel in Heaven now.

The best teacher, boss and person I have ever known. Their are no words to describe what a wonderful person she was. I will miss her the rest of my life, and know this must be a terrible blow for her family.

I´m so saddened to hear about Anne. She was one of the best teachers our sons ever had! She made a huge impact on many students. She always made the learning process enjoyable. I loved being there to help in the classroom just as much as our sons did. She has touched many lives and will never be forgotten. RIP Anne....from the Mason family

I was extremely saddened to read the news of Mrs. Gillespie's passing when I opened the Poway Chieftain. Mrs. Gillespie was my 2nd grade teacher at Valley Elem. She was by far my favorite teacher! I spent before/after school with her, hanging out, I enjoyed her company so much. She was the teacher who noticed I had trouble reading the board so would put me up front. Shortly after she noticed I wasn't reading the board well enough my parents took me to get my 1st pair of glasses. She not only helped me to see the world, she taught me the world. I loved her so much. Prayers to her family and friends and all those students who loved her too. She was an amazing, loving, patient and kind teacher and person. RIP Mrs. Gillespie and know that you made an enormous impact on so many of your students. Here's a picture of me and Mrs. Gillespie in the Halloween parade at Valley. I'll never forget her.

Thank you Anne. So many little lives were touched by you, including mine. Rest well knowing those little lives are big and we know the value of a true educator.
