Richard Corwin Obituary

Richard Arthur Dick' Corwin January 23, 1929 - November 17, 2017 La Jolla On November 17, 2017, La Jolla lost a larger than life man, Richard Arthur Corwin. He passed away from a short battle with pneumonia at 88 years of age. Fondly referred to as "Dick" Corwin, he was born in 1929 in San Jose, CA, the son of Ruth Corwin and Gordon W. Corwin, a Californian state assemblyman from the 73rd District. Dick Corwin grew up in Redlands, CA and attended Redlands High School through his junior year. Berkeley where he received a Bachelor of Science in business administration in 1954. He was a member of Cal Del Rey Fraternity and played football as wide receiver for the university. At the time the Korean War broke out, Dick served as a corporal in the Army for two years. He was stationed in Germany and tasked with working on wartime radar. I am so sorry for your great loss. May the God who "binds up the brokenhearted" and "comforts all who mourn" (Isaiah 61:1, 2) sustain your family during this challenging time. Please accept my heartfelt sympathy.

My parents, Ken and Melinda Riley, absolutely LOVED time with Dick and Hank, then also with Lynn. He will be greatly missed! We have a great story about one of their ski trips. Ken and Dick would go together to the shuttle to the slopes. Ken would tell Dick, "here - you put the skis on the rack when the bus gets here. I'll jump on and save us seats." By the 3rd morning, Dick said in his calm, easy way, "Riley, I may be slow but I'm not dumb. YOU deal with getting the skis on the racks and I will get on the bus and get us seats" It lives on as a favorite line in the Riley family ... "I may be slow but I'm not dumb."
God's peace to all of you who mourn the loss of this wonderful man.
