Barbara Lucas

Hearing the voice of the Master's call, Barbara Lenora Lucas departed this earthly life on Tuesday, May 23 from Westmoreland Nursing Center, Lake Forest, Illinois, to be with our Father in Heaven. Blessed to be at her side holding her hands was her son as she entered in to her eternal sleep. Barbara was born on May 15, 1942 to Marcellus and Theresa Craig in St. Louis, Missouri. The eldest of three girls, she grew up in East St. Louis, IL and proudly cherished her home community. Barbara attended East St. Louis elementary and middle schools, and proudly graduated from East St. Louis Lincoln High School. Upon graduation, Barbara attended Illinois State University. As a youth, Barbara accepted Christ and was baptized at St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church by Rev. S.A. Vincent. As she grew up she continued to serve under the leadership of Pastor E.V. Caviness and Pastor Obie Rush. Upon moving to Waukegan, IL, Barbara joined and served at Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor Jonathan Lightfoot and Pastor Walstone Francis. Her ministry works included but were not limited to the Deaconess Board, Sunday School, Shiloh Federal Credit Union and Lydia Circle of the Missions Department. Barbara was a member of the North Shore Community Service League for 35 years. Barbara retired from North Chicago Community High School after 26 years of committed and dedicated service. Barbara leaves to cherish her memory, daughter DeNise (Michael) Strawn of Avondale, AZ; son Travis, Jr. (Jeanne') of Beach Park, IL; Grandchildren, Donovan and Marques Strawn and Travis, III (Tre') and Alana Lucas; Sisters, Marcella (Burnette) King of Pensacola, FL and Carolyn Pickens of Centerville, IL; and nephews, nieces, other cousins, relatives and friends. Funeral Services will be held Saturday, June 3, 2017 at 11:00 AM at Shiloh Baptist Church, 800 S. Genesee Street, Waukegan, IL, Pastor Walstone Francis officiating. Visitation will be at 10:00 AM.
