It's nearly two years since I learnt that James had died and I still feel so sad. He was a wonderful, larger than life character and had a huge influence on me. I was in Cambridge recently and so many of my memories include James e.g. punting on the Cam and him standing up and singing the Star Spangled Banner at the top of his voice.

I know James was an Econ. and Russian Studies major, as well as a Marshall Scholar. I'd spot James occassionally on campus (Grinnell), usually in ARH. Very sorry and surprised to hear of his passing. Deepest condolences to his family.

I was a friend of James at Cambridge and we enjoyed a wonderful holiday to Greece together over Easter in 1984. My birthday that year was on Easter Sunday and I still have the beautiful ceramic tray and cups he bought for me in Monemvassia. Condolences to his family
