Duane Bosma Obituary
He spent much of his career as a "tree surgeon" and was the proud owner and operator of Doc's Tree Service in both Minnesota and California. Duane's nickname "Doc" came from his childhood and love of animals, and it continued on because of his thoughtful approach to tree care and his skill in shaping their growth.
In his earlier years, Duane honorably served his country as a member of the 101st Airborne Division of the United States Army. His time in service shaped his values of resilience, loyalty, and courage-qualities that remained evident throughout his life.
After retiring at the age of 84, he returned to Minnesota to be near his brothers and the place where he was raised. One of his greatest joys was attending the annual family reunion at Swift Falls, MN, where he cherished time with loved ones.
Doc was a loving father and is survived by his children: Alcinda Patterson (Kenneth), Michael Bosma (Jill), Steven Bosma (Cecelia), Lenaya Smith (Christopher), and Melissa Emory (Kenneth). He was preceded in death by his son, Jeffery Bosma, in 2007. He was a proud grandfather to 18 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. Doc also leaves behind a legacy of kindness that extended well beyond his immediate family. Many people who crossed his path came to see him as a father figure, and he was lovingly called "Dad" by more than just his own children.
A memorial service will be at the Swift Falls Bosma Family Reunion on July 26th at 6pm and also on August 2nd at 5pm at Caty's Vineyard in Lodi, CA.
In lieu of flowers, we ask you to give to Hopkins Retirement Home, and support activities for the residents. Please send checks to Lori Glusica at 727 2nd Ave., Hopkins, MN 55343.
