Lewis B. Paxton

LANCASTER: Lewis Brandt Paxton, age 90 of Sugar Grove took his walk to Heaven on Thursday September 19, 2013 with his family by his side. Lewis was born May 9, 1923 in Berne Twp to the late Jacob and Nellie (Brandt)Paxton.

He was a devoted loving husband to his wife Ruth Annabelle (Smith) Paxton for 65 years. He was a firm believer in God and dearly loved his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Lewis was a kind-hearted soft spoken gentleman. Lewis was a 1941 graduate of Berne Union School. He retired from Anchor Hocking after 41 years in the Decorating Department. After retirement Lewis volunteered at Fairfield Medical Center for 20 plus years. He was a member of the Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church (Berne) where he taught Adult Sunday School, was Sunday School Treasurer and was the caretaker of the church grounds and cemetery. He was a member of Olivedale Senior Citizens, Sugar Grove Senior Citizens serving as treasurer, and Friendly Sixties. He served on the Sugar Grove Village Council. Most recently Lewis and Annabelle were Grand Marshall's of the 2013 Stars and Stripes Parade.

Lewis is survived by his wife; children John (Vickie) Paxton, Anna (Jim) Pierce of Sugar Grove, William "Bill" (Pam) Paxton of Cantonment, FL. Grandchildren John (Tanna Kummerer) Paxton, Crystal (Butch) Frisby, Brandon (Michelle) Paxton, Jeff Pierce, Donati Pierce, Linda (Mark) Thomas, Lea (Kenny) Mitchell, Jennifer (Shawn) Flannery and Skyla Paxton. Great-grandchildren Butch Jr, Bryan, BJ, Sebastian, Justin, Dylan, Coy, Austin, Victoria, Kyle and Trevor. Brother-in-law, Paul "Dick" (Dotty) Smith, numerous nieces and nephews. Lewis is preceded in death by his parents; grandson's James "Jamie" Hughes and William Joel "Billy" Paxton; brother in law John Smith; sister's and brother's in law Agnes (Ed) Bailey, Florence (Elmer) Clark, Esther Smith, Mary Smith, Clara (Richard) Shonebarger.

Funeral service will be held at 1:00 PM, Monday September 23, 2013 at SHERIDAN FUNERAL HOME, with Pastor Paul Wymer and Jeff Graf officiating. Burial will be in Grandview Cemetery, Bremen. Friends may visit on Sunday September 22, 2013 from 2:00pm to 4:00pm and 6:00pm to 8:00pm. Memorial contributions may be made to FairHoPe Hospice.
