Benjamin Sierra Obituary

April 2, 1924 - November 19, 2014 Benjamin Joseph Sierra passed away November 19, 2014 after a valiant battle with bone cancer. Funeral services will be December 6, 2014, with the rosary at 10:30 and the funeral mass being celebrated immediately afterwards, at American Martyrs Catholic Church, 624 - 15th Street, Manhattan Beach, CA 90266, with reception to follow at 1022 Second Street, Manhattan Beach, CA 90266. Interment will be at Riverside National Cemetery, 22495 Van Buren Boulevard, Riverside, CA 92518 on December 12, 2014 at noon. Benjamin Joseph Sierra was born in Pasadena, California on April 4, 1924. He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Marie, and his children Michael (Jean) and Annette, two grandsons, David (Christina) and Jeffrey (Monica) and three great-grandchildren. Benjamin proudly served in the United States Navy during World War II, enlisting at age 16, before starting his own landscaping business, which he operated continuously until just last year. Everyone who knew Benjamin loved and admired him. He was an intelligent, charismatic, gregarious, congenial, dynamic, enthusiastic, happy, gentle and very funny man. Benjamin was a devout Catholic, who faithfully walked the Christian walk, and lived an exemplary Christian life. His Eucharistic Minister visited him twice a week in hospice and, to the end, he sang to his caregiver. He was full of joy and brought joy to all those who knew and loved him, and he will be most profoundly missed.
