October 27, 1926 - September 29, 2017 Elizabeth "Betsy" Ann Mazursky died peacefully in her home with family by her side on September 29th in Beverly Hills, California at the age of 90.  She was born on October 27, 1926 in Louisville, Kentucky to the late Willard and Margaret Purdy.  She was predeceased by her her loving husband of 61 years, film director, writer, and actor, Paul Mazursky, and their daughter, Meg Mazursky.  Betsy graduated from Antioch College in the late 1940's with a Bachelors Degree in Liberal Arts and Sciences.  She also received a Masters Degree in Library Sciences at Pratt Institute in New York City. As Executive Director of the Instituto de Educacion Popular del Sur de California (IDEPSCA) and on behalf of the organization, we are very sorry to learn of Betsy Mazursky's passing and send our sincere condolences to her family and friends during this moment. Betsy was beloved by all of us here but especially by the day laborers from our Hollywood Worker Center, who knew her as a part of their community, not just as a volunteer or an ESL teacher.

Just a few years ago we renamed our conference room in honor of Betsy and her late husband Paul. It was with great joy that we were able to spend time with her and her spirit of generosity and equity.

I was saddened to learn that Betsy has gone but relieved that she passed gently with her family near.
She was the librarian near my West Hollywood home when we met and became friends ever after. Such a good person and wise as well as involved, from the time of Caesar Chavez demonstrations, in civil rights issues.
She knew great successes with her gifted husband ,Paul and great losses with the death at age 52 of her beloved daughter, Meg, and the loss of Paul after 61 years of marriage.
My heart goes out to daughter Jill ,her grandchildren and extended family .
Remembering her,
Eileen Ireland
