Carole Hemingway Obituary

July 6, 1935 - April 28, 2021 Carole Hemingway, pioneer radio personality, nationally syndicated columnist, and in recent years CEO of the Hemingway Media Group, passed away on April 28, 2021 after a brief illness. Described by the Los Angeles Times as "intelligent, unhaltingly self-assured and possessed of a combustible laugh", Carole never met a topic she couldn't debate and in turn, an opinion she couldn't try to change. A native of San Francisco, Carole graduated from Stanford University with a degree in International Relations, before moving to Phoenix, Arizona where she would eventually launch her radio career at KPHX. A move to Los Angeles followed with over two decades of on-air programming at KABC and KGIL and an award winning, nationally syndicated column for the Los Angeles Times Syndicate on political and social issues. Most recently Carole provided media consulting for everyone from A list celebrities to Fortune 500 companies. To her family Carole was simply known as "Cia" and will be remembered for her delicious scrambled eggs, a never ending stack of books on her bedside table, and love of her regular evening hikes in Franklin Canyon with her husband Fred and dog Lucy. In addition to Fred, she is survived by her son Dan and wife Cece, son John and partner D'nell, and grandkids Jake, Tatum, Hazel, Augie, Elias, Rigby and Maeve. A true force of nature, her energy, spirit and love of life will be missed.

OMG. I did not discover this news till now. I had the great fun of being a guest with my partner (we were tv comedy writers) on Carole's radio shows at KABC and KGIL as a sort of new years' eve "tradition" starting around 1974, and going into the 80's. She became a friend... and of course we lost touch. Sorry to see her go. Great, great personality, lovely person. RIP Carole!

Just saw you on an episode of Columbo, and was curious if you were a real radio personality. My search turned up your passing; so sorry. You were quite the lady; Rest In Peace.

My lovely partner in crime in an effort to make Jewish holidays delicious and fun for kids and grownups alike. She was the most “alive” person I have ever known. Our condolences to Fred Dan and John and their families

Carole was one of my favorites on KABC. I was listening to Carole when the news come in that John Lennon had been killed. She talked us through the tragedy that night. Thank you, Carole, for all you gave your listeners. We will never forget you.

She truly was a force of nature....
She was also a wonderful cook, and made the best matzo ball soup.
I will miss our conversations, you always brought so much to the table.

I knew Carole well and liked her enormously. She was gifted, bright, funny, creative, caring and in all ways memorable. Our friendship had lapsed, the way friendships sometimes do for no particular reason. Her death saddens me.

Carole was my speech coach when I was at Best Buddies International. A kind, warm, and encouraging mentor and friend.

I've always felt inspired by what she taught me and I'll always remember the things she taught me. She helped me become a more confident and well-spoken writer and speaker.

I'll always remember her and the things she taught me.
