Doc McElroy saved my life once. I was a paramedic student of his in 1975 at Queen of Angels Paramedic school. We became fast friends there. Later, in 1980, I came down with metastatic Testicular CA, and did a first round of the worst chemo ever invented to torment and save. I called Doc McElroy and told him I wasn't going to go through that again. He proceeded to dress me down but good, accusing me of being "Another coward, the Black Knight gives you a flesh wound and you just give up! Go ahead and die, I don't care!" and hung up. That was the best inspiration anyone has ever given me, I went ahead with the chemo, and have just celebrated my 71st bday, when they all said I'd die before I was 30. I'll never forget you Chuck, and I'll never be able to thank you enough.

I had no idea he passed and would so have loved to have been at his memorial! He was my Dr. for 30 years. from 1981 until his retirement in 2011. Never was there a more loving , caring doctor and human! To Judi and his children and family and friends and other patients I send so much love!

My first mainland friend when we entered UW in 1960, resided in the same dorm for 2 yrs, shared an apt for 2 years, then a house for 2 yrs. I will cherish especially those memories of the good times we had. My deepest condolences to Judi and family.
