Coleman W. Morton

Morton, Coleman W. Coleman W. Morton, who lived in Pasadena, California for over 50 years, passed away at age 86 on May 18, 2006 in Palo Alto, California, where he and his wife Jane moved days before. After a short illness, he died peacefully, surrounded by his family.
Morton attended the Hotchkiss School, and Yale University from which he graduated in 1941, and soon thereafter joined the U.S. Navy where he first saw duty in North African waters and later in the South Pacific. He was discharged from the Navy as a full Lieutenant in 1945. He started his business career in Los Angeles with what is now known as "The Capital Group," where he was recognized as an Outstanding Investment Manager. He left that organization and thereafter was active in oil and gas exploration and other entrepreneurial enterprises. He was a member of the California Club in Los Angeles and was a member of the Town Hall for many years. He was actively involved in Claremont University, where he once served as Chairman of its Investment Committee and once as acting Chairman of the Board of Trustees. He leaves his beloved wife Jane, to whom he had been married for 65 years; in addition his daughter Diana of Australia, his daughter Jane of Menlo Park, California, his son Lindley, of Forest Grove, Oregon, his daughter Mimi of Mill Valley, California and son Charles, recently of Pasadena; his brother Robert S. Morton and his wife Elizabeth of San Marino, California; his sister, Sylvia Kingsley of San Francisco; his sister-in-law, Katherine Morton of Casper, Wyoming, and eight grandchildren.
