Frank Guire Obituary

May 9, 1927 - August 24, 2013
Frank was born in Bay City Michigan on May 9, 1927, the son of Alton and Bessie Guire. His family in Michigan always called him Gene. He was active in Boy and Sea Scouts and an avid stamp collector. Upon graduation from Bay City Central High School, Frank received an appointment to the United States Naval Academy. But during World War II, Frank was required to wait for his entrance date; so instead, he enlisted in the United States Navy. After serving in the Navy for two years, he decided to go on to college, graduating from the University of Michigan with a Bachelor's in Business Administration. Frank was a member of the Delta Upsilon Fraternity at U of M. Three months after graduation, he was nicely settled in a job at Mueller Brass in Port Huron, when Frank was drafted into the United States Army where he served two years during the Korean War, then 4 more years as an Army Reserve. He returned to Bay City for a year, and then decided to head west to California.
He settled in Fresno working at the Fresno Bee Newspaper when he met Margot Wells, the love of his life, whom he married April 27, 1957. Son, Mark, and daughter, Susan, were born shortly thereafter. In 1964, the family moved to La Canada, California. Frank and family became members of St. George's Church, where he served on the Vestry, was an Usher and he and the family took part in many church and community activities. Later, Frank and Margot found their church home at Church of the Angels, Pasadena. While residing in La Canada, Frank worked in the film, sales, and printing industries then later in life was a formidable production planner.
Frank was a quiet, patient, honest, loving and deeply religious man, with a very dry sense of humor. He was always impeccably dressed, wearing a conservative button down shirt and matching sweater. He was dedicated to his University of Michigan football and cherished the poker parties with his buddies.
Frank was diagnosed with Type II Diabetes and Alzheimer's later in life. His wife, Margot, was by his side until her death in 2011. Although his health had been slowly failing through the years, it was the loss of his wife that hastened the process. He finally succumbed to complications of Alzheimer's and diabetes, dying peacefully in his sleep on August 24, 2013.
Frank is survived by his children Mark and Susan (CA), his sister, Joan (R. Lynn) Miller, nephew Stephen (Kim) Miller and family and niece Maureen Miller (MI).
A memorial service will be held at 1:00 pm on August 31, 2013 at Church of the Angels, 1100 Avenue 64, Pasadena, CA. All who would like to celebrate his life are welcome. Interment will be held at St. George's Church Memorial Garden in a private family ceremony.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Church of the Angels in memory of Frank Guire.
