Helen Weinstein Obituary

WEINSTEIN, Helen Mildred Helen Weinstein, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, teacher and mentor to many, passed away on July 2, 2008. Helen was born on March 1, 1918 in Cleveland, Ohio. She married the love of her life, David Weinstein, in 1940. Survived by four loving children, Robert (Zvia) Weinstein, Susan (Jeffrey) Brand, Carol (Jonathan) Karp and Debra (Arthur) Bakal; eight loving grandchildren, Zev and Ari Weinstein, Jason (Jennifer) Brand, Rachel Brand, Elizabeth and Sam Karp and Michael and David Bakal; and two great-grandchildren, Talia and Minna Brand. Helen earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree from UCLA, two teaching credentials, and a Master of Arts Degree in Special Education from USC. She worked as a teacher, was the first educational therapist for The Help Group and started the educational intervention program at Stephen S. Wise Temple day school in Los Angeles. After her beloved husband of 52 years, Dave, passed away in 1992, she once again demonstrated her strength of character by volunteering at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art and The University of Judaism. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Help Group, Sherman Oaks, CA, or the charity of your choice. Funeral services to be held on Sunday, July 6, 2008 at noon at Mt. Sinai Hollywood Hills, 5950 Forest Lawn Drive in Los Angeles.
