Howard Rosenberg Obituary

Howard Allan Rosenberg
January 3, 1932 - July 22, 2013
Howard Allan Rosenberg was born in Baltimore, MD. He passed away peacefully after a courageous 24-year battle with prostate cancer. Howard was a veteran of the US Army and served our country during the Korean War. He held a Bachelor of Science degree in Marketing from The University of Baltimore.
Howard was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, uncle, brother and friend to all who knew him. He is survived by his wife and love of his life Gayle Rosenberg, his sister Gloria Heyison (Harold) of Silver Spring, MD, his children Steven Rosenberg (Rebecca) of Tucson, AZ, Susan Rosenberg Battat (Michael) of Burlingame, CA, Molla Rosenberg of Ventura, CA., his step-children Scott Grossman (JoEllen) of Los Angeles, CA., Marc Grossman (Sharon) of San Francisco, CA., his grandchildren Sara and Matthew Rosenberg, Hannah Battat, Jacob and Noah Grossman, Ariella and Ben Grossman, sister-in-law Judy Markham (Stuart) and his nieces Debbie Karasik (Joel), Laura Seideman, Nancy Seideman and nephew Gary Seideman (Dawn).
Howard was the consummate Renaissance man. As a child he performed on vaudeville and throughout his life he was an accomplished pianist. He was a prominent and successful executive in the men's apparel industry for more than three decades. During his career, philanthropy became a major part of his life. Since the early 1980's he was the chairman of the Father's Day Council Los Angeles, which holds the annual Father of the Year Awards Gala benefiting Diabetes research and honoring role model fathers. Because of the event's success, Howard had the vision to produce the gala fund-raiser in markets across the U.S. He was the driving force in expanding the National Father's Day Council into 36 markets nationwide, raising in excess of $50 million for diabetes research, education and advocacy.
We will miss Howard very much, and as our lives go on, we remember how much he cared and loved us all. In lieu of flowers and in honor of Howard's memory, contributions may be made to The Howard Rosenberg-Father's Day Council Memorial Fund, with all proceeds benefitting the American Diabetes Association at www.diabetes.org/HowardRosenberg
A celebration of Howard's life will be held on Thursday, July 25th at 12:00 Noon at Hillside Memorial Park, 6001 Centinela Avenue, Los Angeles.

I didn't know Howard, but from all that I have read, he was an amazing man. What a blessing to have been touched by his presence. Although he is not with you in his physical form, I believe he will be with you forever in your hearts and memories. His beautiful legacy touched all that knew him and the impact that he had on the world will be remembered.

My Prayers are and have been with the Families of Howard. Howard is an incredible Man! I was really nervous when I first met him. He greeted me with a sincere handshake along with his infectious smile, which immediately put me at ease (even though I was a “Goy-um” …. I can't find my Jewish “Yiddish?” dictionary, a term that was later explained to me ?- I was raised Lutheran). I admired his passion and enthusiasm in the Jewish Religion and the traditions which come with it. He shared and enlighten me with the meaning of the Sater(spelling ?) Dinner, Hanukkah, Rosh Hashana, etc.. (I sometimes wonder if he was secretly trying to convert me!? Ha, Ha). He had a certain glow to him, which I noticed whenever he talked to Steve, Suzy and Molla, whether it be in person or on the telephone, because he loved them and was so proud of them! When he said he liked Rod Stewart, I knew among other things, “I like this guy”..., cause I grew up loving his music in Life.

I feel very Blessed to have Howard be a part of my life! Priceless memories of laughter, inspiration and advice – that won't be forgotten!!! I'm sure, right now, he is playing on a Grand Piano singing and entertaining for all the Angels to hear!

Mr. Rosenberg, it's been years for me yet, I thank you for your “Human Touch” on my life!

I have so many fond memories of Uncle Howard, he was so passionate about everything and the most wonderful husband to my Aunt Gayle. My sympathy and love goes out to Gayle and his wonderful family. He will always be the brightest star in the sky and will be deeply missed.

Gaye,
My sympathies to you and the family. Howard and I drove into the mart on many occasions when he lived in Agoura. I also worked with Howard for many years on the Father's Day Council. Be in the Menswear Industry and having a daughter that is Diabetic made our working relationship special. I learned a lot from Howard and had a tremendous respect for him. He will be missed.
