Jack PRENTICE Obituary

April 19, 1923 - May 22, 2016 'Jack' Hobart Thomas Prentice was born in Los Angeles to Irene Pennebaker Prentice, and Arthur Spaulding Prentice, joining sister, Doris and brother Robert. He attended Beverly Hills High School (Spring 1941), and later joined the Navy as a pilot. After the war he worked as a production clerk at MGM and met future wife, Lois Marion Haymond. They married in 1947, and settled in Manhattan Beach, CA. Daughter Patricia was born in 1949, and daughter Jan was born in 1950. Jack apprenticed at two jewelry firms in L.A., Brock and Co. and Donovan & Seamans. In 1958 the family moved to Rolling Hills and he opened his own jewelry store in Palos Verdes Estates. He continued in the Navy Reserves testing new planes and serving in numerous operations until he retired in 1965, at the rank of Commander. Retiring from his jewelry business in 1980, he and Lois moved to Balboa Island, Surrey, England, and finally Carmel, California. He was active in the Monterey chapter of QB's and co-owned a 1941 Stearman. Many friends and family feature in his Flight Logs - Sons-in-law Jeffrey Platt and Thomas Bassett enjoyed rides, as did his grandchildren, Michael Platt, Christopher Platt, Allison Platt Miller, and Anna Kate Bassett. While Parkinson's took away his ability to draw and write later in life, his family and friends will be left with many of his wonderful creations and numerous stories to remember his great legacy. Funeral services will be Saturday, June 18, at 1pm at Live Oak Memorial Park, 200 E. Duarte Rd., Monrovia. Donations may be made to The Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Research. Dearest Jan,

So sorry to hear about your father. It has been 55 years since we were at OSU...have thought of you through the years. My dear daughter passed away and was an Alpha Chi... Hope you are well. My husband´s dear friend was born and reared in Palos Verdes.

Mr. Prentice lived across the street from me in Westfield, Palos Verdes, Ca., as I was growing up. He had a Abarth sports car that I would wash for him. Later on he owned a Stearman Bi plane at Torrance airport. We went flying over the Pacific Ocean and did some aerobatics. He put the Stearman into a spin. He even let me take 'The Stick' What fun! He was a master jeweler in the Malaga Cove Plaza. I have a cocktail ring he designed that is unbelievable. He and his wife, Lois and daughters Pat and Jan were the best. Upon getting married in 2001 my wife and I visited Jack and Lois in Carmel,CA. We had a wonderful visit as they drove us around town in a vintage car they owned. Now at age 64 he is still one of the neatest, kindest fun man that I have had the privilege to call my friend.
Gona miss you, Jack
