James Golden Obituary

April 23, 1938 - June 30, 2014 Jim died peacefully at home at age 76 surrounded by loved ones. He was born in Chicago to Blanche Skebelsky Golden and Richard Golden. Jim moved to Los Angeles in 1971 and founded Wooden Nickel Records with Jerry Weintraub, Bill Traut, and Bob Monoco. He produced albums for musicians such as Styx, Ziggy Marley, and James Lee Stanley. He ultimately became a personal manager at Management III working with, among others, Shari Lewis and Lamb Chop. Jim is survived by daughter Ashley Golden Morrow (Christopher), grandchildren Lucas and Sydney Morrow, his beloved companion Brenda Watkin, sister Joanne Golden Kaplan (Stanley), and extended family Caryl Golden and Jim Gerson. A man of great heart and spirit. His passions included sailing, cooking with Brenda, riding his bike, taking long walks, and the Napa Valley. He was the "fixer".He could repair anything, make gardens flourish, and make difficult times seem manageable. Jim will be truly missed as "Dad", "Papa Jim", "Golden", "Jimmy", and as the good friend he was to all. Jimmy, I remember all the good and wonderful, you did too when you asked Joanne to call me, that is whey I knew.

Jim signed me to my first recording contract and throughout the association was honorable and fair. Rare qualities in our business. I am sincerely saddened by his passing. I was hoping to see him at least one more time.

I was the bass player for The Foggy Notions and Jim (along with Bob Monaco forming MG Productions and Ginny Records) were our managers and promoters. Through the doors Jim opened I was fortunate enough to meet artists and experience musical adventures that most kids in the '60s could only dream of!

I have only good memories of a down to earth, honest guy who was fun to be around. Though clearly not the most famous of people his magic touched, I'll forever be one of the most grateful.

Thank you Super J !

Jim Kaplan.
