Joan Flam Obituary

April 8, 1934 - March 25, 2018 Joan Flam, 83, passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, March 25, 2018 in Palm Desert, CA. Born in Detroit, MI, Joan was a lifelong Californian since the age of 9. She attended Van Nuys High School, completed her bachelor's degree at UCLA, and earned her law degree from the San Fernando Valley School of Law. Retiring from an inspired family law practice, with specialization in adoption law, she and her life partner, Irv Shafer, moved to the open spaces of Palm Desert in 2003. Joan is survived by cherished daughters, Paula Flam Siebert and Rabbi Nancy Flam, her adored sons-in-law, Gary Siebert, DVM, and Neil Kudler, MD, and her precious grandchildren Miriam and Jonah Kudler-Flam. Funeral and burial services will be held in Northampton, MA, home to her daughter, Nancy, on Wednesday, March 26. Memorial donations may be made in Joan's name to Emily's List.
