John A. Sage

1935 - 2018

January 9, 1935 - October 5, 2018 John A. (Jack) Sage was born in Ontario, Canada, to Agnes & Russell Sage. He remembered an idyllic childhood with summers spent with parents, sisters, aunts & uncles, and lots of cousins at the families' cabins on Trout Lake. Fishing, canoeing, & exploring were on the agenda, along with ice fishing and hockey in the winter. Jack attended Queen's University and graduated from McMaster University with a BA in Industrial Psychology. After graduation he joined Del Monte Corp. in Canada, then Campbell Soup Co. in Toronto. He was promoted to Campbell's corporate headquarters in New Jersey and subsequently had a 30-year career as Executive Vice President for Administration for Allied Corp. (NJ), Continental Airlines (LAX), Southern Pacific Corp. (San Francisco), and Mattel Toys (L.A.). In addition to labor relations, Jack also had his hand at times in public relations and property acquisitions. During and after his corporate career, Jack accumulated a portfolio of properties of his own. He retired from Mattel in 1991 to manage his investments. Jack and Gloria were married at Bel Air Country Club on the 10th tee in l980. They had an incredibly happy, wonderful life together traveling the world skiing, golfing, and enjoying family and friends throughout the U.S. Jack was an accomplished golfer, a good bridge player, and a fabulous skier. But he will be remembered for his kindness, his laughter and his generosity. In addition to his wife, Jack is survived by his children, James R. Sage (HI), daughters Kelly Bell (AUS.), and Kate Sage & son-in-law Bobby Bruton (CA); grandchildren, Jiao Yen, Bailey, Cameron, Connor, and Parker; sisters Betty Jean Wells and Jean Fortune (Canada), sisters-in-law Robin Hack (CO) and Vicki Hack (IN), and numerous nieces and nephews.
