Larry Crandall Obituary

Crandall, Larry Dale
Born in Ogden, Utah, September 25, 1925, son of Lawrence and Idonea Crandall; died November 22, 2002. A retired Lieutenant, U.S. Navy, Larry served in WWII as a Naval Aviator. A long career in the hospitality industry included: Vice President, Lawry's Restaurants; President, Sea World's Restaurant Division; Vice President, Denny's Restaurants, where he created the industry's first photographic color menu depicting fresh food selections; and President, Campbell Soup Company's Restaurant Division. In the 1980's he conceived and operated "Alexander's Brass Rib" Restaurant in Pasadena. Larry held a B.S. in accounting from U.C.L.A., and was a graduate of its Executive Management Program. For several years he lectured in Restaurant Management at both U.C.L.A.'s Business School and U.S.C.'s School of Architecture. He is survived by his loving wife Louise Phipps Crandall; son Lawrence Edward Crandall (Susan); daughters Karen Crandall Thomas (Albert) and Cheryl Crandall Hernandez (Martin); son Lawrence "Chip" Crandall (Patricia) and sister Donna Crandall Nordstrom. His beloved grandchildren include Carter Ryan Thomas, Christopher Martin Hernandez and Marie Louise Hernandez. Private services with military honors have been arranged by the family. MacDougall Mortuary, Santa Ana.
