Lois Normandin Handy

1927 - 2016

June 20, 1928 - March 25, 2016 Beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and aunt, Lois Normandin Handy passed away on March 25, 2016 in Encinitas, CA. Lois was born in Los Angeles to Ethel Hayward and Olivia Normandin. She attended Cathedral Chapel and Los Angeles High Schools. In 1946, Lois entered the University of Southern California where she was the first president and charted member of Kappa Kappa Gamma Sorority. She met the love of her life, A. Sydney Handy, Jr. at USC and were married in 1950. They raised three children, Mark, Matthew and Sydney in Palm Desert, CA. Lois and Syd were married for 55 years and enjoyed life in Palm Desert, summers in their mountain cabin and traveling throughout the world. She became an elementary school teacher and taught for 17 years in the Coachella Valley. Lois was active in many organizations: Trojan League, Kappa Kappa Gamma, Indio Historical Society, and Indio Rotary. She loved to play tennis, golf, and enjoyed swimming and skiing. In 2011, Lois moved to Chateau Lake San Marcos to be closer to her children and grandchildren. She has joined her husband Syd, her brothers Richard and Howard, and her son Matt in Heaven. Lois is survived by her brother George, son Mark, daughter Sydney, grandchildren Erin, Kevin, Robin, and great-granddaughter Olivia. Services will be held June 4, 2016, 11:00am at St. Elizabeth Seton Catholic Church, 6628 Santa Isabel St., Carlsbad, CA 92009. Memorial Contributions can be made to the Palomar College Scholarship Fund.
