Lon Weyland Obituary

July 30, 1956 - July 4, 2015 Lon left this earth Saturday, July 4th with his usual flair; fireworks and a brass band. He succumbed to a very aggressive colon cancer. Lon was born and raised in Hot Springs, Arkansas. His parents were Lon Weyland Jr. and Marjory Preston Weyland. Lon was very proud of his mother's Australian roots and the fact that as a war bride she stowed away on the S.S. Lurline from Sydney to San Francisco with her new husband Lon Jr. Lon was a very popular kid and had many friends growing up. He was proud to have played Tevya in his high school production of Fiddler On The Roof and joked he got the part because he was the only student in the drama class who could grow a beard. Lon moved to Los Angeles to attend the American Academy of Dramatic Arts to pursue an acting career but found writing more to his liking. He was the Head Writer for The Rick Dees Weekly Top 40 Show for many years. He knew everything about music, musicians, movies, radio and television. We will all miss his annual extravagant Oscar parties. Lon is survived by his loving partner of 27 years, Alan Paull, brother Graeme (Debbie) Weyland, his nephew Preston Weyland, niece Darby Weyland, former sister-in-law Katrina Weyland, cousins Anita (Tom) Gorzalski, Sarah (Bill) Sutter, Karen (Earl) Wilson, our Samoyed pup Mika and our loving friend Jack Shawen who did so much to help care for Lon during his illness. There will be a Celebration of Lon's life at our home on Saturday, July 18, 2015 at 4:00pm in the afternoon. Please contact Alan or Jack for details.
