Norbert Gehr Obituary

December 2, 1940 - February 28, 2015 December 2, 1940 - February 28, 2015 Norbert Gehr, age 74, died Saturday, February 28, 2015 at his home in Beverly Hills, CA. Norbert was a Brazilian-born American citizen, who made California his home for 56 years and was born on December 2nd, 1940 to the late Leo and Francisca Gehr. He attended UCLA Business School and started his own business in 1965 at the age of 24. His high work ethics and commitment to excellence led him, over the years, to build The Gehr Group empire from his very humble beginnings. Norbert never retired, as his love of work made that his favorite hobby and greatest passion. Norbert is survived by his daughter and sons, Robert, Max and Andrew Gehr; his brothers Richard and Leo Gehr, and a niece and nephew. Memorial services were held last Sunday, March 8th at 11am at Hillside Memorial on 6001 Centinela Avenue, LA, California, and was attended by 350 of his loyal friends, employees and beloved family. A celebration of his life was held at his personal residence following services where a short documentary and interview about his life and legacy was shown and will continue to be available for viewing at www.gehr.com/video, for all those who did not make it to the occasion. Any belated gesture of support in his memory may be directed to his philanthropic organization in form of donation to *The Gehr Family Foundation*, which among other charitable causes, is dedicated to supporting the fight against Leukemia.

Years passed but a memories stays. Rest in Peace, Norbert. THANK YOU VERY MUCH for your trust, support and attention to your workers and their families. My girls and me have a wonderful memories of being a part of your kids and family life. You are always in mine and my girls hearts, thoughts and prayers. RIP, Mister Norbert Gehr.

Wow!!! I am back in California for the past 2 years from Belize and didn't know this gentle giant had passed until right this minute. That's a blow. I have read up on him over the years, Gehr's Industries/Gehr's Group but never once came across that he had died. I met Mr. Gehr through applying for a position as the Live-In Nanny for his twins Max and Robert. My interview was ar the business location of Gehr's Industries as it was called at the time. After the interview, I was told. I had to go in the same building for another interview for the same position with a 2nd person and I did, then a 3rd, and that was when I met Mr. Norbert Gehr. I will never forget that experience to be interviewed by 3 different people for the same position and all the while he was seeing me and I didn't know. After my interview with him, I had to take a blood test, which I passed, or I would not have been hired to take care of his two adorably boys, worst in their home. I was also told by one of the persons who interviewed me that I am lucky because there were more than 50 plus persons who applied for this position and I was the only one to make it in to see Mr. Norbert Gehr. I felt really honored. I am so sad to hear that he is no longer with us. I am not surprised to hear that he never retired, he was a workaholic. One of my fondest memories for him, was when he wanted to make a reservation at any restaurant and it was last minute and he would give his last name Gehr, not his first but if they asked for his first and they happen to say is that Richard Gehr Sir? and he would say, Yes, Gehr, never giving up that it wasn't the Gehr they thought he was and he would get his reservation. (Smiling) To his wife, kids and Daisy, my deepest condolences. May he continue to R.I.P.

Norbert Gehr was a leader, visionary, philanthropist and friend. His passion for excellence, his relentless drive for success and his tenacity were matched by his love for his children. He was a force of nature and he left a permanent impression on anyone who met him. His legacy continues with The Gehr Group and with The Gehr Family Foundation, the businesses and charity he left behind. His memory will live on.
