Norman Elliott Obituary

May 22, 1923 - December 1, 2013 Born in Los Angeles, California, and moved to Coronado in 1988; relocated to Encinitas/Carlsbad area in 2009. Norm was educated in Los Angeles County Schools, later attending Pasadena City College and Occidental College. Norm enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps after Pearl Harbor, and continued in college under the V-12 Program until graduating in 1943. He participated in Marine Special Officers Training School (SOCS), and was commissioned Second Lieutenant, USMCR 1944. He served as rifle company officer in 4th Marine Division in invasion of Iwo Jima in 1945, where he was wounded in action and awarded the Purple Heart. After hospitalization, Norm served in cleanup operations in Saipan-Tinian, working as an MP detective. After the war, Norm attended USC Law School, where he was elected to the Order of the Coif Honor Society and was granted his LL.B. in 1949. Admitted to the California State Bar in 1950, Norm was an active member of the Bar until 2007. He was admitted to the United States Supreme Court Bar in 1957, as well as many other State and Federal Courts. Norm was married to Jean F. Foster in 1944, and the couple had five children. Following her death in 1975, he was married to Amy Elliott, born Amy L. Halberg, a long-time college friend, and had a long, happy marriage. He was preceded in death by his dear wife Amy and his brother John, and is survived by his sister June, his children Jim, Bill, Tom, Rob, and Kate, his daughters by marriage Candy and Dee Dee, and fourteen grandchildren. Memorial services will be held at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Encinitas, CA on Saturday, December 21, at 2pm.
