Patrick Yogi Obituary

March 31, 1932 - September 4, 2017 Patrick Junichi (Pat) Yogi, Torrance resident, passed away peacefully after a brave struggle with Parkinson's disease. Born in Brawley, CA, to Jitsutoku and Kame Yogi, Okinawan immigrants, his family farmed in the Imperial and Central Valleys before being incarcerated in Jerome, Arkansas, and Gila River, Arizona, during World War II. In 1951, Pat enlisted in the Air Force, serving for four years. He worked as a mechanic at Philip's Auto Service in Hawthorne for 35 years. He and wife Miyoko married in 1967 and settled in North Torrance, where son James and daughter Mary were born. He is survived by a large and loving family: his wife and two children; grandchildren Hailey, Christian, and Joshua Yogi; two brothers and their wives (David & Kim Yogi and Ken & Joy Yogi), two brothers-in-law (Frank Goya and Toshio Higa and his partner Linda Fujioka); and 16 nieces and nephews. A Celebration of Life service will be held at Gardena Valley Baptist Church on September 15 at 10:30 am. Casual attire. The family kindly requests no flowers or koden.

Pat and Miyoko's many thoughtful kindnesses to my parents, Florence and Bud Gustafson, were much appreciated. Pat was a very kind and gracious neighbor and will be well remembered. With much sympathy and fond memories.

My grandparents lived next door to the Yogis, and as a child I played with their daughter Mary. They were always so kind and generous to me and my family. Deepest condolences and sympathies for your loss.
