Paul Lee Guidry Sr.

1929 - 2018

May 5, 1929 - February 3, 2018 Paul Lee Guidry, Sr., age 88, heard the music, and danced with the angels on Saturday, February 03, 2018 at 7:45 am. He transitioned peacefully surrounded by loving family and caregivers, at the New Haven Board and Care, in Saugus, CA. Paul was born in Beaumont, Texas. He was the son of Willie Mae Burkes and Jack Guidry; he had an older brother Luther, all of whom preceded him in death. His best friend was his little dog Trixie. He attended high school, in Beaumont. Upon graduating, in 1946, he immediately enlisted in the U.S. Army; where he served 3 years as a firefighter. In 1949 he received an honorable discharge. Paul attended college at Xavier University in New Orleans, Louisiana. As a child, he aspired to be an architect and design buildings, but later as an adult realized he could make a bigger impact in the world, by building boys into young men through teaching. He received a BA in Industrial Arts and Mathematics, in 1955. He returned to Texas, to teach school, after graduating. Paul married Jane Pipion from Beaumont, Texas, in 1959 and moved to Los Angeles, CA. After moving to Los Angeles, Paul worked for the LAUSD school system, where he was a teacher for 35 years. Paul & Jane had two children, Paul L. Guidry, Jr., and Phyllis L. Guidry. Paul is survived by his loving children, Dr. Paul L. Guidry, Jr., (Tracia) and Mrs. Phyllis L. Florent (Tarrell); 6 beautiful grandchildren, Armani, Aliyah, Paul, Alexandria, Amira and Halia; his extended family, Bradley, Michael, and Damon James; nephew Luther Evans (LJ); a host of other nieces & nephews, their families; and friends. A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, February 17, 2018, at 10:00 a.m. at Spalding Mortuary Chapel, 3045 S. La Brea Ave., Los Angeles, CA. There will be an open viewing at 9:00 a.m., prior to the Memorial Service.
