Peter Churm Obituary

CHURM, Peter February 2, 1926 - December 31, 2011 Peter Churm, 85, passed away peacefully on Saturday, Dec. 31, 2011 in Newport Beach, CA. He died from complications of a stroke. A devoted husband, father and grandfather, he was born in Beloit, WI and grew up in Glen Ellyn, IL where he graduated from Glenbard High School. He enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps in 1943 and 4 years later graduated with honors from Miami University in Ohio. Peter was a member of Sigma Chi and also named Significant Sig. He returned to active duty in 1950 and served in the Korean War as a 1st Lieutenant. In Dec. 1954 he married Carlyn Rau and resigned his commission to work for Kimberly Clark in Neenah, WI. He transferred in 1956 to Fullerton, CA and joined a plastics company, Fluorocarbon which was later renamed Furon. With Furon for 33 years, he served as President for 17 and 11 as Chairman and helped grow the company from 20 employees to over 2,900 with $335 million dollars in annual revenues. He retired in 1991 and continued to serve on the firm's Board of Directors and several other corporate Boards including: 27 years at Carl Karcher Ent. and 8 years with the Fullerton Union School Board. He will be remembered for his positive outlook and love of life. He is survived by his wife, Miriam, sons, Steve (Cinda) and John (Cathy), step-daughters, Katy Krupp and Caroline Miller (Scott) and 8 grandchildren. His first wife Carolyn preceded him in death. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Hoag Hospital Foundation's Stroke Program: 500 Superior, Ste. 350, Newport Beach, CA 92663. A celebration of life will be held on January 23 at the Newport Harbor Yacht Club: 720 W. Bay Ave., Balboa, CA 92661 at 11:00 am.

Was saddened to hear of Pete's passing. I had the great fortune to have known Pete during his high school years and met with him in Korea in 1953. We had a great two days together. My condolences to his family
