Phyllis Weiss Obituary

November 7, 1926 - January 29, 2015 Phyllis Weiss, nee Phyllis Jacqueline Kahgan, has peacefully left this earth. A third-generation Californian, she grew up in Los Angeles as did her mother, Florence. As the daughter of show business parents, her life was enriched by meeting many of the greatest names in music and entertainment. Having her father Philip Kahgan in entertainment, she was given a small part in the motion picture "The Star Maker" starring Bing Crosby. She accompanied Mr. Crosby on the piano fronting an all kid orchestra. It was her show business debut and swan song, but it was fun. As a teenager she got the surprise of her life to find out she had a half brother, Jack Kahgan, who lived in New York. She attended USC where she made lifelong friends. In 1948, she fell in love with and married Joseph Weiss, a Caltech graduate and Naval Officer. That marriage lasted 67 years until her death. In 1950, they celebrated the birth of their first child, Wendy Ellen Weiss, followed by sons Daniel Steven Weiss and Andrew Richard Weiss. Her passions were her dress shop, collecting antiques and travel. She collected too many antiques, but never could get enough travelling in. They saw the world. She leaves the love of her life, husband Joseph, children Wendy, Dan, and Andy as well as her childrens' spouses Robert Neuman and Lauri Weiss, her brother Jack Kahgan, and grandchildren Tanya Northcutt, Lara Ragsdale, Julie Miller, and Michael Weiss, as well as great grandchildren Noah and Netianah Northcutt, Chase and Caden Ragsdale. If you see one less smile on the street today, it's because Phyllis Weiss has moved on to a better place.
