Richard Groll Obituary

GROLL, Richard Penn (Dick) Born May 1, 1935 in Hollywood, passed away Thursday, July 7, 2005. Dick was a Certified Public Accountant in Los Angeles for 45 years. For almost 30 years, he was in partnership with the late Edward Wachbrit. Dick had an incredible group of lifelong friends, many of whom he had known since grade school. At Hamilton High School (class of '53), he met his pals from the AZA, and they still meet regularly. At UCLA, where he obtained his BS in Accounting, he met another group of longtime friends as a member of Tau Delta Phi fraternity. He also made good friends during his stint as a radioman in the Navy aboard the USS Bon Homme Richard. In 1975, he received his Masters in Business Taxation from USC. Dick had many interests. He used his ham radio license to talk to people around the world, and for many years volunteered to work with the L.A. Sheriff's Department, and on the Hollywood Christmas Parade. His time was also spent with charitable and civic organizations as a member of the Vikings, Rotary Club, City of Hope, and others. Dick especially loved being a member of the Studio City Residents Association, where he was involved in the Studio City Farmers Market board. In business, He was a life member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, and the California Society of CPAs. Dick met Judy, the love of his life in 1954, and they married in 1958. They settled down and raised their family, spending the last 38 years in the family home in Studio City. Besides Judy, he is survived by his son Scott (Paulien) Groll, and daughters Cindy (Ralph) Rushing, and Stephanie Groll (Doug Healy). Also, grandchildren Justin Rushing, and Hannah and Jacob Groll. His beloved dog Maggi will miss him as well. He was preceded in death by his parents, Oscar and Anne Groll, and sister Vivian Kaufman. Services will be held at Mount Sinai Memorial Park, Hollywood Hills, Sunday July 10th, 2005 at 2:00 p.m. (800) 600-0076

I think I can speak for everyone who ever worked with Dick in saying that he was always the consumate professional and a man with integrity beyond reproach.



But what I will remember most about Dick was that you never felt as if you worked for him; you always felt that you were part of his family. And after I moved on, I always knew that I had a friend and a colleague just a phone call away. I hope that Judy knows that she still has one too.

Judy and family...we were so saddened to hear of Dick's passing. It's hard to imagine that he is not with us any longer. Take comfort in knowing that he was loved tremendously, and that his legacy will live on in his children and grandchildren.
