Robert Nichols

NICHOLS, Robert B., M.D. Robert B. Nichols M.D. passed September 30, 2010 in Glendale, CA at the age of 91. "Dr. Bob" was born in Alamogordo, MN on April 7, 1919 to Robert Lester Nichols and Francis Oliver Nichols, the second of four brothers with Lester, Oliver, and Jack. Bob graduated from Hollywood High and Pepperdine University. In 1942, he met and married fellow pre-med student, Barbara Louise McLean, his beloved wife for 64 years. They raised four children, Robert Nichols II, James Nichols, Lynne Farrar and Sue Nichols Peter. Barbara passed away in 2006. Dr. Bob received his MD from Loma Linda University in 1946 and became an orthopaedic surgeon in 1961 at LA Orthopaedic Hospital. He also earned his LLB Law degree in 1958 and his J.D. in 1969. He was Medical Staff President of for the Hollywood Academy of Medicine, Hollywood Presbyterian Hospital and the International College of Surgeons, USA Section. Dr. Bob's proudest humanitarian accomplishment was establishing the Valley Orthopaedic Clinic in 1961, "Where Hope Meets Help", which has treated and healed many thousands of crippled and handicapped children. He has been honoured with many awards for his charitable works by Sertoma, Shriner's Hospital LA County, California State, the US Congress and US Presidents. Bob was a pilot, musician, Ham Radio Extra, equestrian, Sheriff's Posse member and acting police surgeon for 40 years. Bob and Barbara resided in Hollywood, Burbank and Prescott, AZ. He is survived by their children, six grandchildren and nine great grandchildren, brothers, Dr. Oliver Nichols of West LA and Dr. Jack Nichols of Redding, CA. Dr. Bob will be dearly remembered for his love of God and his honourable, dedicated service to the needs of thousands of children. He was an amazing inspiration to all who knew him and will be greatly missed by this many friends and all his loving family. Rest in God's perfect peace, our precious Pop.
