Rosalie Benjamin Rubin

Rosalie Rubin Obituary

Rubin, Rosalie Benjamin Dec. 26, 1909 - Jan. 22, 2006
Born in Butte, Montana ("ten months of winter, two months of poor sledding") in the winter of 1909. As if growing up there wasn't enough, Rosalie was a high school student super-star who was one of just a handful of women of her era to graduate from UC Berkeley (class of 1932). Primarily a housewife, she was an ardent volunteer in her community. From being awarded a life membership in the PTA, to volunteer work with the USO, Rosalie was committed to helping others. She delivered "Meals on Wheels" to clients who were all younger than herself. Until shortly before her death, she did regular volunteer work at the Beverly Hills Public Library. But hers is primarily a love story: Her husband of 68 years, Nate, was the focus and love of her life (just as his focus was her). Their devotion to one another was legend. Rosalie told anyone who would listen how lucky she was to have such a loving husband. After 68 years, they were still like newlyweds. This example of love and devotion set the tone for her family and she raised a family of children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren who are devoted to one another and love each other. Through 96 years, she did much - but her legacy is one of love. A great love for her, a great love from her, and a great love within her family. Rosalie Rubin is survived by her husband Nate of the home; daughters Helen Connelly (Larry) of Rancho Palos Verdes, and Nancy Rubin (John Byrne) of Kensington; son Arthur (Lynne) of Carlsbad; granddaughters Cathy Connelly (Jon Spevack), Leslie Smith (Mike); grandsons Bill Connelly (Jenny) and Alex Rubin; great-granddaughters Caroline Connelly, Juliette Connelly, Callie Spevack and Clarisa Spevack. Her entire life was a celebration - no other celebration is planned.

She was everyone's grandma. And always with a kind smile for all of us. Now heaven will know what really amazing lemon bars taste like.

I feel I know the entire Rubin family, thanks to Rosalie being my dear friend for almost 36 years. It is an honor to have kept in touch after meeting on a tour in Eupope in 1970. You have my deepest sympathy and we have lost a true, true lady and friend. Love, John
