Susan Nethery Obituary

1939 - 2015 Our dear sister, aunt and friend-extraordinaire passed away peacefully at home on May 6 after a courageous five month battle with cancer. ¿ Susan was born in Covina, CA to William and Jessie Mae Nethery, December 20, 1939.¿ She was raised in Glendale California.¿After high school she attended La Chatelaine School in St. Blaise Switzerland and subsequently obtained a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Advertising Design from Art Center College of Design. Following graduation she became an Art Director at Carson/Roberts Advertising, Los Angeles.¿ She was a trail blazer in the industry as one of the first female Art Directors.¿Upon leaving advertising, she was a successful free-lance artist and illustrator for 20 years. ¿ Her friends and family were foremost in her life closely followed by her love of nature.¿ She was a committed environmentalist and fiercely protective of Mother Earth. Susan's communes with nature took her far afield and close to home. Traveling was her passion with trips throughout the US, Europe, Asia, Australia and her favorite destination, Africa.¿¿Her travels were filled with visiting friends - new and old and capturing memories that celebrated the beauty of life.¿ Susan was a serious reader with a love of good literature. Susan is survived by her sister Sally and brother in law Ted Doll of Pasadena, nephews Bart and his wife Michele Doll, Billy Doll, grand nieces Taney and Kade Doll and more friends than most of us will ever know. ¿ Services will be private. Hello dear Susie. You would have been 85 now, as I am 70. I still miss you and think of you often. You would get a kick out of some of the things I´m doing now and I wish I could share them with you b

I still miss her constantly. Whenever a new art exhibit is in town, she is the first person I think of.

I miss Susie all the time. She was a bright light in the world and we shared so many great adventures together. She had a great laugh and a beautiful smile. I lived next door to Susie and probably spent almost as much time in her apartment as I did mine. She was loved by so many and I'm sure is missed by all of us. She has a wonderful family and a loyal group of friends. We lost her too soon. Susie, I love you and I'll see you in a minute. xo

I miss her constantly. She would have been be 80 now and what a fun eighty year old she would have been! I was so lucky to have been bequeathed a few of her possessions. I treasure them and know that she would be thrilled to know how they are so much a part of my life. Her Bakers Rack holds many plants. Her cactus flowers with regularity and we say, Hello Susie. We have had her fabulous work bench in our alcove and are in the process of revitalizing it and making it a centerpiece of activity. I miss, miss, miss her. She will always be close to my heart.

Had the pleasure of working with Susie at Carson/Roberts in the summer of 1965. As a junior art director, I was blown away by her style, talent and personality. Hadn't thought of her for many years and was saddened to learn of her passing during an internet search this afternoon.
Not many C/R creatives left and Susie was certainly one of the very best.

Susie was a dear friend. We shared many visits to LACMA, and she will forever be with me when I visit any museum. We met in water aerobics class. Hers was the prettiest, most friendly face bobbing above the water, and I was drawn to her right away. She left a strong imprint. I feel so lucky to have known her, and I can't believe she is gone. Don and I send heartfelt condolences to Sally, Ted, Bart, Michelle, Billy, Taney and Kade.

Bob and Susie went to Art Center together and then both worked at Carson Roberts. Susie's art is in our home - we see one beautiful painting every day. There are many other pieces, wonderful examples of her unique illustration talent. Some we bought from her, others she gave as gifts on birthdays and anniversaries throughout our lives together. Susie will be truly missed, but her talent lives on.

Susie good friend. We shared a lot over the last 50 years -- our mutual birthday celebrations, mutual friends, love of art, love of nature. I'll miss you terribly. Go in peace.

No words can not express our thoughts and feelings on the passing of Susan. There will be a large void in family gatherings. Her smile and jest for life will be missed by all.

My guardian angel, fairy god mother. There are no words to describe how lucky I was to have her. She will remain in my heart for the rest of my life.

We send all our family's love to Susie's family; she loved you all so dearly; we felt we knew you all through the years as she shared her life's memories and adventures, lessons and creations, stories of mom and dad, sister Sally, Ted, Bart and Billy, love and marriage, babies, graduations, and more. She will always remain in our hearts forever; she gave us all so much --- laughter and kindness, friendship and love. We love you, Tante Susie. We miss you terribly, but, yes, see you in a minute.

Susie,

One of the dearest, most generous and loving friends one could ever have. I lived next door to Susie for 11 years at the Harper House and we were best buddies. I moved to NYC but never lost contact with her. She was a touchstone in our lives, my daughter, Zoe, adored her too. I can't believe she is gone. She was truly one of a kind -- so gentle and funny and kind.

Love you, Susie. See you in a minute! xox Robin

I knew Susan was ill but just learned by chance that she had passed on. We met years ago in the Westwood pool aerobic class where she was the clearly the star. Her ability to engage people and develop good friends that lasted for years was perhaps her most engaging quality. Susan really cared about people stayed in touch. She was a magnificent reader and part of our book club until she dropped out because she wanted to read what she wanted to read! She called me on my birthday in February and her diagnosis slipped out. She felt terrible that she had ruined my birthday call - that was Susan! She was a delightful person. I loved our conversations and I will miss her terribly.
