William Chapman Obituary

Chapman, William F.
January 15, 1927 - May 20, 2011
Dr. William F. (Bill) Chapman of Toluca Lake passed away peacefully in San Diego on May 20, 2011 at the age of 84. Bill was born in West Point, Nebraska to Lille and Olive Smith Chapman. He had two older siblings, Jack and Katherine, both of whom predeceased him.
After graduating from UCLA and the UC Irvine College of Medicine, Bill ran a successful family practice in North Hollywood and was on staff at St. Joseph Hospital for 45 years, until his retirement in 2001. He then continued to serve the community by volunteering his services to a nonprofit organization, Meet Each Need with Dignity, where he provided medical care to working, low-income and uninsured adults. To each of his patients, he showed the utmost professionalism combined with a kind and gentle bedside manner.
Bill was a Fellow of the American Association of Family Practitioners, and underwent a rigorous course of continuing education and testing to maintain his standing with that group. He also volunteered for the LA 84 Foundation, which funded sports programs for children.
Bill leaves behind his dear wife of 61 years, Dusty, daughter Christine, son Steven, son-in-law Tom, daughter-in-law Deanna, and grandchildren Sydney, Jackson, Bryce, Corey, and Lauren.
Bill was generous with his gift and his time with family, friends and patients, and will be remembered as a considerate and thoughtful person. Family and friends will celebrate his life at a Funeral Mass at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, June 6 at St. Pius X Catholic Church, 14107 Lyons Valley Road, Jamul, CA 91935. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial contributions be sent to the San Diego Hospice at 4311 Third Avenue, San Diego, CA 92103.

My deepest sympathies go out to the Chapman Family during this most difficult time of loss. May you find comfort from the words found at Isaiah 61:2.

We all loved our uncle Bill, and will never forget his happy face, and his kind gentle demeanor. Holidays were fun with stories of growing up on the farm in Nebraska, and football rivalries between USC (Jacks alumni) and (Bills alumni) UCLA. Grandma Chapman was so sweet and made the best yeast rolls and rootbeer floats. God Bless you Uncle Bill. Some day we will get to see you, Grandma, and Dad(Jack) again.
