William Garrett Obituary

July 26, 1951 - April 14, 2016 William (Bill) Garrett, 64, passed away unexpectedly at his home in Newport Beach on April 14, 2016. Bill was born and raised in Riverside, CA , only child of William and Alice Garrett. He graduated from Poly High School in Riverside in 1969, and upon graduation joined the U.S. Air Force Reserves. He learned to fly planes and was a commercially rated pilot. He attended Riverside Community College, Chapman College and World Campus Afloat (Semester at Sea) where he found his love for traveling the world. He graduated from the University of Illinois in Aviation Management while stationed in Rantoul, IL. He relocated to Newport Beach to pursue his love for surfing and began his professional career in 1975 as a Certified Property Manager, as President of Centennial Properties, Inc. in Tustin and Orange, CA. In 1990 Bill formed a new company, Interpacific Asset Management, Inc. in Westminster, CA specializing in commercial property management and large Homeowner Associations and worked until his passing. He had a love for life, family and friends and his dedicated employees. Bill was a man of many interests. He was a kind and gentle man who loved spending time in nature snow skiing, hiking and fishing in the Eastern Sierras, surfing, shooting sporting clays, tennis and sailing. He was always reading, studying, learning something new and improving himself in his many passions. His taste in music was truly classic and he loved rock-n-roll from CSN to ZZ Top as well as jazz and a glass of fine cabernet. He respectfully served the Newport Beach Community as a Parks, Beaches and Recreation Commissioner for 9 years. Bill was deeply loved and respected by his wife, Pam and his stepson, Matthew Tanner, who had the great honor of knowing him for 30 years. Having the pleasure of his company over dinner one could laugh, love and learn all in one splendid evening. He was a perfect blend of responsible family man with a rebel spirit who found the joy and freedom in nature, driving a race car, world travel or riding a classic motorcycle. At Bill's request a private burial was held at Olivewood Cemetery in Riverside, CA. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that any donations be made to the Newport Beach American Legion, Post 291 Auxiliary.
