ROCKINGHAM — John Philip Rieg, 69, of Rockingham, passed away on Sept. 3, 2023, after a valiant battle with lung cancer. He was born on May 28, 1954, in Rockingham, the son of the late Philip Blaine Rieg and Annie Ruth Rieg.
John leaves behind a daughter, Marianne Gaskins (Robert); daughter, Jeannie Ray (Chris); granddaughter, Lauren, 18; grandson Will, 15; granddaughter Charlotte, 2; sister, Pat; cousin, Eddie; and little Ava.
Throughout the years John served as a volunteer fireman in Laurinburg. He also enjoyed many hobbies such as carving, woodworking, fishing, and watercolor painting. For the last several years he has loved being a part of the Griffin Nissan team in Rockingham.
A private memorial service will be held at a later date.
